One of my fondest memories was when in the late nineties Clare (her granddaughter) and I took Mum to stay in a wooden chalet near The New Forest for a week. A few days before we went Mum asked if we were just bed and breakfast or full board? I explained that we were self catering and this was such a new concept to her that I had to explain what that meant...... her reaction was "well that's not going to be much of a holiday"
Off we went and and had a lovely week, it was strange to her for the first day and then she was getting up in the morning and sitting drinking tea and having breakfast in her robe, something unheard of at home, she was just so relaxed!! She wen't home having absolutely loved the experience and that was the first of many self catering holdays we enjoyed together.
